Aikido dojo Antwerp Aikikai has as its primary goal the organization of aikido trainings. The trainings are given by different teachers on 2 locations, in Antwerp and in Mortsel. The principal style is indicated by Peter Van Marcke, who has studied aikido mainly with Nobuyoshi Tamura shihan, Yoshimitsu Yamada shihan and Seiichi Sugano shihan. These important aikido masters were all three, in their youth, a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido.
Antwerp Aikikai is affiliated to Aikido Sansuikai International, an international aikido association of Yamada sensei, bringing together aikido practitioners across the globe. In 2011, a European department of Sansuikai international has been established.
Sansuikai is a non-profit organization that is directly and officially recognized by the Aikikai foundation in Tokyo, Japan. The goal of Aikido Sansuikai International is to promote friendship between aikido practitioners and to promote the practicing of aikido, according to the Aikikai regulations and in the spirit of the late founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba, O’Sensei.
The mission of Antwerp Aikikai:
- Antwerp Aikikai wants to contribute to the distribution of aikido in Antwerp, Belgium and the world.
- Antwerp Aikikai wants to be an open dojo for everybody that desires to practice aikido in a spirit of friendship and openness.
- The aikido in Antwerp Aikikai is inspired by the teachings of the respected aikido masters Yoshimitsu Yamada shihan, Nobuyoshi Tamura shihan, and Seiichi Sugano shihan, direct students of O-sensei Morihei Ueshiba, founder of aikido.
- Antwerp Aikikai is participating in the consolidation of the community of Sansuikai International, the international organization of Yamada shihan.
- Antwerp Aikikai wants to cherish a good relationship with the Aikikai honbu dojo, aikido’s world center in Tokyo, through Yoshimitsu Yamada shihan and Sansuikai International.
